Since its inception, Sigma Gamma Rho has promoted unity among women.  For years, many alumnae
chapters worked with and organized auxiliaries consisting of women who were not members of
Greek-lettered organizations.  These auxiliaries had various names until 1954 when the sorority
accepted the name "Philo" as their official name.  In 1980, the Philos were organized on a national
level and have many regional chapters throughout the sorority.  The Kappa Sigma Philos, chartered
June 12, 1987 are professional women and community activist, who initiate, organize and carry out a
wide variety of community activities, such as their program with the Veteran Hospital patient visits to
nursing homes and periodically serving as hostess for conferences at The John Henry Clark House.
In addition to their own programs, they support Kappa Sigma Chapter programs and the Kappa Sigma
Rhoers.  They are a shining star in The Kappa Sigma Chapter Family of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority
Inc.

The Rhoer Club is the youth affiliate group of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., founded in 1939 at the
14th Biennial Boule.  The first Rhoer Club was formed in 1940 by Alpha Eta Chapter.  Rhoers are
young ladies ages thirteen to eighteen organized locally, regionally and internationally.  These young
ladies are provided with educational, vocational, civic, social and cultural experiences by the sorority
and are sponsored by alumnae chapters.  A love for youth and the development of their full potential
was the primary motivating factor that inspired Founder Mary Lou Allison Gardner-Little to organize
youth.  The challenges faced by our youth today are such that could never have been imagined years
ago.  These challenges provide the sorority with opportunities to carry on the vision of Founder Little.
Sigma Gamma Rho is dedicated to helping Rhoers to grow to be women of substance dedicated to
service in the community.
